On land and on water, Waiheke has an excellent selection of wildlife. On outer islands there is a gannet colony and a number of different sea birds visit at different times of the year. Blue Penguin are a common sight along the coast. You can also spot Black Shags, Oyster Catchers, Dotterels and Herons to name a few species found around Waiheke and its islands.

The Hauraki Gulf has a wide range of sea life. The common dolphin can be spotted all year round as well as rays.
